Common Dog Behavior Problems We Fix
At Tellez K9 Dog Training, we specialize in solving even the toughest dog behavior problems. Whether you’re dealing with a brand-new puppy or an older dog with years of bad habits, our proven training programs are designed to create calm, obedient, and well-mannered companions. Our experienced trainers use balanced, results-driven methods to address your dog’s specific needs — giving you peace of mind and a happier life with your dog.
Here are some of the most common dog behavior issues we fix every day:
-
Tired of your dog dragging you around the neighborhood? We teach your dog to walk calmly by your side with a loose leash — no more pulling, lunging, or choking. Enjoy relaxed, stress-free walks again.
-
Does your dog ignore you when it matters most? Our recall training builds focus, trust, and responsiveness so your dog comes when called — every time, even with distractions.
-
Friendly enthusiasm is great, but jumping can be dangerous or frustrating. We teach your dog polite greetings and impulse control so guests are welcomed calmly and respectfully.
-
Aggression can stem from fear, anxiety, or dominance. Our trainers use proven methods to identify the root cause and correct aggressive behavior safely and effectively, helping restore confidence and balance.
-
If your dog lunges, barks, or growls at people, dogs, or cars, we’ll help them stay calm and focused in real-world settings. Our reactivity training desensitizes triggers and builds your dog’s confidence.
-
Some dogs get overstimulated at the sight of other dogs or distractions. We teach focus, calmness, and self-control, transforming walks from stressful to enjoyable.
-
If your dog chews furniture, digs holes, or destroys items when left alone, we’ll teach boundaries and confidence-building techniques to eliminate destructive habits for good.
-
Separation anxiety can cause whining, barking, or destruction when you’re away. We address this through structured routines and training that builds independence and emotional stability.
-
Whether it’s “sit,” “down,” “stay,” or “place,” we establish clear communication between you and your dog through consistent obedience training that builds discipline and reliability.
-
Constant barking can be stressful for both you and your neighbors. We identify the cause — whether it’s boredom, fear, or attention-seeking — and teach your dog to be quiet on command.
-
Accidents inside the house? We create a consistent potty training plan that helps your dog learn where and when it’s appropriate to go, saving your floors and your sanity.
-
Some dogs just can’t seem to settle down. We teach impulse control, patience, and calmness — creating a more focused and relaxed companion.
-
From loud noises to new environments, fear-based behaviors can limit your dog’s confidence. We gently expose and desensitize your dog to triggers to help them feel safe and secure.
-
If your dog growls or guards their food, toys, or bed, we’ll help them learn to trust and share calmly, preventing dangerous confrontations before they happen.

Meet Gerardo Tellez – Owner & Head Trainer
Gerardo Tellez is the founder and head trainer of Tellez K9 Dog Training LLC, bringing over five years of hands-on experience in professional dog training. His background extends beyond pet obedience into the working-dog world, with a particular focus on German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and the development of reliable, well-rounded working dogs.
As an active IGP/Schutzhund competitor, Gerardo has dedicated himself to developing his knowledge and skills through the demanding disciplines of tracking, obedience, and protection work. His experience training and handling titled IGP dogs has shaped his approach to dog training, emphasizing precision, consistency, accountability, and clear communication between dog and handler.
Gerardo believes effective dog training goes beyond teaching commands. It is about developing dependable behaviors, building confidence, establishing structure, and preparing dogs to succeed in real-world environments.
At Tellez K9, his approach combines practical experience, balanced training methods, and individualized programs designed around each dog's temperament, behavior, and needs. Whether working with a family companion, a reactive dog, or a high-drive working breed, his objective remains the same: developing reliable dogs and equipping owners with the knowledge and skills to maintain those results.
His philosophy is simple: Good training isn't just about what a dog can do during a lesson. It's about what the dog can reliably do in everyday life.

Why Choose Tellez K9?
Results-Based Training
We focus on practical results that transfer beyond the training environment and into everyday life.
Individualized Programs
Training is tailored to the individual dog rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Real-World Training
Dogs need to be able to listen around real distractions—not just in a controlled training environment.
Owner Education
We teach owners how to communicate with their dogs and maintain their training long after the program is complete.
Balanced Training
We use a balanced approach incorporating appropriate rewards, clear communication, structure, and boundaries based on the individual dog and situation.
Training for More Than Just Commands
A well-trained dog isn't simply a dog that can sit or stay when asked.
We want to help you develop a dog that can listen, remain under control, and function appropriately in everyday situations.
That may mean calmly walking through a neighborhood, settling in the home, behaving around guests, remaining neutral around other dogs, responding reliably to commands, or eventually working off leash.
Our training is designed to help bridge the gap between knowing a command and reliably following it in the real world.
About Tellez K9 Dog Training
Tellez K9 Dog Training was built around a simple philosophy:
Training should work in real life.
Our programs are designed to help owners understand their dogs, establish clear communication, and develop reliable behaviors that can be maintained beyond the training session.
With experience working with a wide range of dogs—from family pets to high-drive working breeds—we approach each dog as an individual and build the training program around its needs.
